NFL Week 4 Fantasy Notes

Sunday, Sept. 30

Baltimore at Cleveland 1:00 pm Even with Boller, the Raven offense will be useful and Mason in particular looking good. For the Browns, Lewis is not an advisable play, although Edwards still is.
Chicago at Detroit 1:00 pm Griese alone won't be able to salvage the Bear O much this week, so proceed with caution with Benson and Berrian. We still maintain Johnson will be a better fantasy option than McDonald.

Green Bay at Minnesota 1:00 pm Go with Favre and his receivers, while staying away from any Vikings not named Peterson.
Houston at Atlanta 1:00 pm Even with Johnson out, Schaub will still be worth playing against his old team -- the same cannot be said for anyone on that old team.
N.Y. Jets at Buffalo 1:00 pm Jones and the Jet receivers will continue to get on track versus a horrible defense -- while nobody outside of the 2 gimme Bills are worth your time.
Oakland at Miami 1:00 pm Don't look to anybody except the RBs here.
St. Louis at Dallas 1:00 pm Leonard should be good for a TD here, but little else. Go with all of your Cowboys, but don't abandon Bulger.
Seattle at San Francisco 4:05 pm Marginal players on both sides are worth your attention in what should be a shootout.
Tampa Bay at Carolina 4:05 pm We'll keep our streak intact at 4 and urge you to start either Panther RB you own. Neither Carr nor Delhomme should be starting for your team at QB, but Garcia should -- and Williams and Galloway are nearing returns to every-week status.
Denver at Indianapolis 4:15 pm All-in, all the way around. Even with Denver's great secondary, the Colts have too many weapons for this to be anything less than a shootout.
Kansas City at San Diego 4:15 pm You simply can't bench LJ, even if his prospects seem bleak here. LT also shouldn't be a guy we have to tell you to start and this is where he starts to go off big-time. Jackson also merits consideration.
Pittsburgh at Arizona 4:15 pm Stay away from either Cardinal QB until the dust settles. Without Ward, Holmes may draw too much attention to warrant a lineup spot.
Philadelphia at N.Y. Giants 8:15 pm The Giants on national TV again? How's that keep happening? This is another go all-in shootout.

Monday, Oct. 1
New England at Cincinnati 8:30 pm See Sunday night game!

Bye: Jacksonville, New Orleans, Tennessee, Washington

NFL Week 3 Fantasy Notes

Sunday, Sept. 23
Arizona at Baltimore 1:00 pm Mason continues to merit consideration in what could be a resurgent season.
Buffalo at New England 1:00 pm All-in with the Pats (like we said last week), no marginal Bills.
Detroit at Philadelphia 1:00 pm Young WRs Brown and Johnson are worth starting here.
Indianapolis at Houston 1:00 pm Schaub isn't worth a look without Andre Johnson.
Miami at N.Y. Jets 1:00 pm Start Chambers and stay away from both starting RBs if at all possible.
Minnesota at Kansas City 1:00 pm Don't start any marginal Chiefs or Vikings.
San Diego at Green Bay 1:00 pm Keep looking to Favre after the efforts of both of these teams last week.
San Francisco at Pittsburgh 1:00 pm Both QBs should be sitting.
St. Louis at Tampa Bay 1:00 pm Cadillac yes, Bruce no, and don't hedge for a minute on starting Bulger.
Cincinnati at Seattle 4:05 pm The Hasselbeck-Branch battery is going to have a lot of juice this week.
Cleveland at Oakland 4:05 pm Many borderline players are worth starting here: Lewis and Edwards (but not Anderson) for the Browns, Jordan and Curry for the Raiders.
Jacksonville at Denver 4:05 pm Don't start any marginal players in this game either.
Carolina at Atlanta 4:15 pm Both Panther RBs remain worthy starters.
N.Y. Giants at Washington 4:15 pm Yet another "don't start marginal players" game.
Dallas at Chicago 8:15 pm Start Berrian and consider Witten even in the few no-mandatory-TE leagues out there.

Monday, Sept. 24
Tennessee at New Orleans, 8:30 pm Yes on Young, and much like Bulger, you can't even consider sitting Brees now.

2007 fantasy hockey draft guide and mock!

Here's the annual draft guide, our best yet! It will get you ready for fantasy hockey better than any other resource you can access.

And our annual hockey mock draft will take up our entire program Thursday night on THE FANTASYDRAFTHELP.COM INSIDER on SportsTalkCleveland.com (9-11 PM EDT). While we will not be able to devote time to our game-by-game NFL breakdown as is customary during football season, we will read off a list of our recommended start-and-avoid players for Week 3 -- we'll do so at the beginning of the show, at the end, and at 10 PM EDT. Additionally, check back on the blog this weekend and we'll have our usual comprehensive weekly fantasy football preview for you.

NFL Week 2 Fantasy Notes

Here's our notes from THE FANTASYDRAFTHELP.COM INSIDER on SportsTalkCleveland.com (Thursday from 9-11 PM EDT) -- links are to CBSSports.com game previews:

Atlanta at Jacksonville 1:00 pm Dunn has the upper hand on Norwood, but should be avoided. Horn is a hostage to Harrington's play and is a poor choice at least for now. RB Taylor is worth a look.
Buffalo at Pittsburgh 1:00 pm Ward and Holmes will carry over their Week One production.
Cincinnati at Cleveland 1:00 pm Notwithstanding a poor Bengals defense and a short week for them, Edwards should be avoided. Go all-in with your Bengals.
Green Bay at N.Y. Giants 1:00 pm Neither young RB is a good bet here. Toomer will not repeat his Week One success.
Houston at Carolina 1:00 pm Foster and Williams remain good, but not great #2 RB options. Schaub does not have a very good matchup, but is quite familiar with the Panthers.
Indianapolis at Tennessee 1:00 pm RB Brown is a Week One megastar who does not merit a play solely on that basis.
New Orleans at Tampa Bay 1:00 pm Galloway is the one bright spot in the Tampa offense and merits a play.
San Francisco at St. Louis 1:00 pm Smith should be used with great caution until further notice. Ike Bruce is a poor play until further notice.
Dallas at Miami 4:05 pm Romo is close to being an every-week start. If it's possible to avoid playing Brown and Chambers, and it may not be, then do so.
Minnesota at Detroit 4:05 pm Bell and C. Johnson are edging towards every-week status. Week One aside, McDonald is still not.
Seattle at Arizona 4:05 pm Leinart and Hasselbeck should both be in most lineups this week.
Kansas City at Chicago 4:15 pm Benson and Berrian will feast for Chicago.
N.Y. Jets at Baltimore 4:15 pm Coles and Jones won't do much for the Jets, while Mason could put up some numbers for the Ravens.
Oakland at Denver 4:15 pm Curry, Cutler and Marshall are the marginal plays worth a shot this week.
San Diego at New England 8:15 pm Go all-in with your Pats and Chargers this week.

Monday night
Washington at Philadelphia, 8:30 pm Randle El is not for real just yet, while Moss merits a spot on your bench if you can afford to do so.

Great show back in studio tonight!

There's no place like home, and THE FANTASYDRAFTHELP.COM INSIDER program is back in studio after weeks of remote broadcasts tonight from 9-11 PM EDT on SportsTalkNetwork.com as we bring you the best fantasy sports coverage anywhere. Here's our lineup:

9:00 PM: We will break down each and every game of NFL Week 2, scouring the matchups to help you with your tough lineup decisions.

10:25 PM: The fantasy hoops center crop takes a hit today as Uber-Rookie Greg Oden is ruled out for the season. We take our first overview of the fantasy hoops landscape.

10:45 PM: We get ready for our fantasy hockey draft on next week's program with a look at the hockey pool landscape in 2007-08.

How to do links and how not to

Here's how you do it. An immense library of links on any sports subject you can think of, as well as many outside of sports.

And here's how you don't do it. One subject of links to manage and it's completely devoid of the leading voice in the MMA industry, Pro Karate Weekly. I know it's only a Kos blog, and thus not meant to be taken too seriously, but c'mon, a fourth-grader wouldn't have made that mistake.

NFL Week 1 Fantasy Notes

As we did last year, we'll be bringing you our notes here from our FANTASYDRAFTHELP.COM INSIDER program (Thursdays, 9-11 PM EDT) to give you the game-by-game perspective on who are the good and bad marginal starters for each week. We will never insult your intelligence by telling you to play someone like Peyton Manning -- we limit our recommendations to the much less obvious decisions. Links for each game take you to detailed game previews on CBSSports.com with video previews available there as well.

ALL GAME TIMES EDT

Sunday, Sept. 9
Atlanta at Minnesota 1:00 pm Horrible fantasy matchup, but Horn is worth a look.
Carolina at St. Louis 1:00 pm Both Carolina RBs merit a start as they will get a lot of work.
Denver at Buffalo 1:00 pm The Cutler-Marshall battery should get off to a good jump start.
Kansas City at Houston 1:00 pm Another horrible fantasy game, but the overrated Green is good for a rare start.
Miami at Washington 1:00 pm The Green-Chambers combo will get a chance to get off to a good start.
New England at N.Y. Jets 1:00 pm Jet WRs may be a better-than-usual play, especially if New England pulls away.
Philadelphia at Green Bay 1:00 pm Almost no marginal fantasy plays here, but monitor Hunt for future vulture status.
Pittsburgh at Cleveland 1:00 pm Holmes will get a good chance to justify his sleeper status here.
Tennessee at Jacksonville 1:00 pm Yet another miserable fantasy matchup, but Young gets a chance to shine here.
Chicago at San Diego 4:15 pm Rookie Olsen could really surprise here and merits a start. Benson is not a good option.
Detroit at Oakland 4:15 pm Bell is a decent, not great, option as he tries to grab a permanent hold on the job.
Tampa Bay at Seattle 4:15 pm Williams will get a good chance to put the nightmare of '06 behind him here.
N.Y. Giants at Dallas 8:15 pm The overrated Jacobs needs a good beginning to the year, but may get it here. Contrary to many pundits, Romo is not an every-week fantasy starter yet but should get the nod here.

Monday, Sept. 10
Baltimore at Cincinnati, 7:00 This should be a shootout and Mason and Clayton are stronger-than-usual plays.
Arizona at San Francisco, 10:15 In the second wild game of the night, Smith is a strong play for Frisco.

10:35 PM: We examine trends from Major League Baseball this season to take a look at some big surprises awaiting fantasy baseball players in 2008.
