Fantasy Football: Areas of Separation Last Year With Notable Players

We posted our rundown a few weeks ago of the top fantasy football players for 2009 on our UQB system. [Here is the explanation from that feature verbatim: The UQB system is explained in more detail here. Suffice to say that players are measured proportionately against each other in key categories based on the standard deviation from the mean in each area. It is truly the Ultimate Quantitative Baseline of how each player performed in 2008. Kickers are not included among the top overall players because although they account for a great deal of scoring, they do not get drafted in the top few rounds overall.]

As far as how the players differentiated themselves on the UQB, here are some of the individual numbers that players posted that were among the most noteworthy in terms of separation in a statistical category:

^ Drew Brees (5069 passing yards)
^ Jay Cutler (4526 passing yards)
^ Adrian Peterson (1760 rushing yards)
^ Michael Turner (1699 rushing yards)
^ Mo Jones-Drew (565 receiving yards)
^ Andre Johnson (1575 receiving yards, 115 catches)
^ Wes Welker (111 catches)
^ Brandon Marshall (104 catches)
^ Devery Henderson (24.8 yards per catch)
^ Robert Meachem (24.1 yards per catch)
^ Tony Gonzalez (1058 receiving yards, 10 touchdowns, 96 catches)
